THE BASIC

What makes a push through sign actually work?

A push through sign is a two-part build: a routed metal face panel and translucent acrylic push through letters that sit proud of the surface, usually 15 25mm. LED modules inside the cabinet light the acrylic from behind, so at night the letters glow evenly while the panel stays dark the sharpest day-to-night contrast of any illuminated signage.

Every push through sign we build is bespoke routed to your exact logo, brand colour and site conditions, never picked off a shelf. The face panel is usually 3mm aluminium composite or solid aluminium, powder-coated in any colour; the letters are 20mm opal acrylic, optionally vinyl-faced so they show your brand colour by day and glow clean white by night.

  • Halo-free glow — light exits only through the letter faces, never around them
  • Day/night colour — vinyl-faced push through letters read as brand colour by day, glow by night
  • Vandal-resistant — letters are mechanically locked into the panel, not surface-glued
  • Even illumination — diffused LED modules sit behind every letter, no hot spots

Panels, acrylics and finishes

Every push through sign is a pairing of face panel and letter acrylic. Here's what each option actually means for cost, durability and where it should be installed.

Custom Letter Sign & glow options

Most popular

Standard push through (20mm proud)

Letters project 15–25mm past the panel face, so the acrylic edges catch light too and the letters read as solid bars of glow at night. The classic push through look.

Understated

Flush push through

Letters sit level with the panel for a seamless, architectural face. Only the letter faces glow — sharp, minimal and popular for medical and professional suites.

Brand colour

Day/night vinyl-faced

Coloured vinyl on the letter faces gives you exact brand colour in daylight and a matched or white glow after dark — two signs in one panel.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

How much does a push through sign cost?

Most shopfront push through signs run $2,200–$4,500 depending on panel size, letter count and lighting. Small indoor push through letter signs start around $900. You’ll get an itemised fixed quote with your free mockup — see the pricing section above for a full breakdown.

What is a push through sign?

A push through sign is a metal face panel with your logo routed out and thick translucent acrylic letters pushed through from behind. LEDs inside the cabinet light the letters so they glow at night while the panel stays dark — a crisp, high-contrast alternative to lightboxes and flat prints.

Push through letters vs channel letters — what's the difference?

Channel letters are individual fabricated letters mounted one by one; push through letters are all set into a single panel. Push through signage is faster to install, easier to seal against weather, and gives you a coloured or black panel as part of the design — channel letters suit very large formats where a panel isn’t practical.

Can push through letters show my brand colour by day?

Yes. We apply translucent Pantone-matched vinyl to the letter faces, so your push through letters read as brand colour in daylight and glow that colour — or clean white — after dark.

How far do the letters project from the panel?

Standard push through letters sit 15–25mm proud of the face panel, which lets the acrylic edges catch light for that solid-bar glow. We also build flush push through signs where the letters sit level with the panel for a seamless look.

Are push through signs suitable outdoors?

Absolutely — they’re one of the best exterior formats. Our outdoor push through signage uses gasketed letter seats, IP-rated LED modules and marine-grade fixings, and we spec solid aluminium panels for coastal or high-wind sites.

How long does production take?

Most push through signs take 7–14 business days from mockup approval to dispatch. Large exterior builds with council-compliant mounting can take up to three weeks.

Do you install push through signage, or is it delivery only?

Both. We install directly in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide and Perth, or ship your sign flat-packed Australia-wide with a mounting template, pre-wired and ready for any licensed electrician.
